
The Iowa State Fair is currently going on in Des Moines and several members from Dallas County have won high awards.
In the 4–H Livestock & Horticulture division, Kennedy Cheney was the Ranch Horse Western Pleasure Champion. She was also the Hunt Seat Equitation Reserve Champion (grades 9-10), second in Horse Trail, Western Horsemanship (grade 10), then third in Horse Showmanship, and Western Walk/Trot, receiving a purple ribbon for all. Kendall James was awarded several purple ribbons. James was the Grand Champion for Halter Gelding, second for Western Horsemanship (grade 8), plus third in the Hunt Seat Equitation (grades 7-8) and Western Pleasure (grade 8).
A couple of 4-Her’s placed in the static division with Caroline Smalley earning a purple ribbon with her hand painted watercolor peacock in the Creative Arts portion. A purple ribbon went to Maelyn West as she helped raise money for Lymphoma Research in the Citizenship and Civic Engagement category.
The Iowa State Fair Fine Arts Competition saw Jill Woodward, from Dallas Center, win the Oil Painting, and Adel’s Iris Spargo finished second in the Drawing category. Finally, Hannah Borst from Adel is one of many individuals that have pictures displayed in the Photography Salon. Full results from Dallas County are below.
