The Perry swimming team began practice this week. They have been working hard as they prepare for this season. Head coach Jean Dowd has the girls training 3 hours a day. “We start the season by doing a lot of dry land and that’s activities that are done in the weight room and we do that here at the rec center and that gives them a good foundation and a good core to be able to take that strength into the water and then we follow that hour up of dry land with 2 hours in the pool.” It is a big commitment from the swimmers as they also practice for 2 and half hours on Saturdays.
The season opens up with a home meet against Algona on August 29. Jean shared how you could cheer on the Jayettes in 2024. ““You can get tickets on bound to come to that. If you want to volunteer to help as a timer, if you want to help with the program get a hold of me and we’ll be able to find something for you to do and you won’t have to pay admission.”
Perry swims all home meets at the McCreary Center. They have 7 home meets this year.
