The Dallas County Board of Supervisors recently made a decision on a petition that can potentially change the number of representatives.

The board held a special meeting on Wednesday to review the petition, which according to Dallas County Auditor Julia Helm, had 5,004 signatures. She concluded that the petition only needed 4,487 signatures. Supervisor Mark Hanson tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the board encouraged people to bring a petition forward about increasing the number of Supervisors, and envisions that people will be on both sides of the discussion.

“There’s a lot of reasons why it might be a good idea, and there’s a lot of reasons why it might not be a good idea, but those are the pros and cons of it, and it’s up to the people to ultimately decide. I’m guessing they’ll be people that might take a favorable view and others might take an unfavorable view, it’s really hard to know.”

Hanson details that the ballot language still needs to be determined before the November General Election, and they will look at that in future meetings. The question to raise the number of supervisors will now be on the ballot for this fall. Helm adds that the amount of votes to pass the ballot requires a majority.
