A good number of farm families within Dallas County were honored during the Iowa State Fair.

According to a press release, Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig and Iowa Farm Bureau Federation President Brent Johnson presented 439 families with Century and Heritage Farm designations at the state fair.

There were five Dallas County families in the century farms category for 2024 and five in the heritage category. The press release states that the century farm program began in 1976, while the heritage farm program started in 2006. The full list of families that were observed can be found below.

Robert E. Friar Jr. – Bouton (origin year 1924)

Jack E. & Mary P. Meier – Perry (origin year 1921)

Shirley A. Sluka – Woodward (origin year 1920)
