A local organization in the City of Adel is helping out kids heading back to school.

The Adel Kiwanis Club recently devoted approximately $7,500 to the Adel Good Samaritan Food Pantry for their annual backpack drive. Adel Kiwanis Club President Scott Hall describes the process of the backpack drive.

“Over the summer and during the school year, they will fill backpacks for kids full of food, so we don’t have kids going hungry during the school year or during the summer.”

Hall discusses that the backpack drive is a big priority for them every year and this program assists in supplying enough backpacks full of food to get students through the school year. Hall estimates that the Adel Kiwanis Club raises close to $30,000 to distribute to different causes.
