The state of Iowa is enjoying weather in the mid-70s, but is set to quickly warm up on the backside of the weekend.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Alexis Jimenez tells Raccoon Valley Radio that there’s been some high pressure in the atmosphere producing comfortable weather. She emphasizes that towards Sunday and Monday, Iowa will witness a return of hotter temperatures, with a chance of more showers and storms. Jimenez concludes that the temperatures are a little warmer than normal this deep into the summer.

“The average temperature for this time of year will be mid to upper 80s, and when we’re starting to push 90 (degrees), that’s getting to be above average for late August.”

Jimenez dives deeper behind the contributing factor to the abnormally hot weather pattern that Iowa will experience.

“It’s really just a late season push of some summer time temperatures and at some point during next week, we’ll start to see changes in the weather again. Maybe something a little bit more pleasant comparatively.”

Temperatures for today will be in the upper 70s, then reach the high 80s tomorrow, and the low to mid-90s on Sunday and Monday, before remaining in the mid-80s for much of next week.
