Greene County youth that would like to learn more about different careers that are offered at the Greene County Career Academy in a fun and entertaining way are encouraged to register for some upcoming programs.

Greene County ISU Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Samantha Hardaway says the 3rd Annual Career Exploration Camps are starting up again. She explains why these programs continue to be successful for youth that are first through eighth grade.

“It’s just an opportunity. They get into the actual classroom at the Career Academy. So if they’re doing welding, they’ll be in the welding room, if they’re doing construction, they’ll be in the construction room, health in the health room, so on, and so forth. But it’s just a really great opportunity for them to get first hand, real world experiences so early in life.”

Camps are held the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month from September through April, with the second Wednesday for first through third graders and the fourth Wednesday is for fourth through eighth graders. All camps are from 4-5:30pm and buses to transport the kids from the elementary and middle schools to the Career Academy. The cost for each camp is $10 and youth can sign up for a maximum of five classes this year. Hardaway adds the only way to sign up for these camps is through her email at hardaway@iastate.edu
