Health professionals explain the importance of breastfeeding can play in a newborn’s development.
LC Clinic Executive Director Hannah Hoyt says that a mother’s breast milk is highly nutritious for babies and infants. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio why they help mothers in this important stage in their lives.
“They kind of have an old phrase that’s ‘Breast is best.’ And so we want to make sure if our moms have questions about that, we do also offer classes before the baby’s here. So there’s a lot of different classes that they can take to kind of prepare themselves for that, and kind of prepare for those areas.”
Hoyt mentions that some of these classes can also help mothers to advocate for themselves wherever they may be with their baby, or when they have their baby. She adds that for the most part, if a woman is giving birth in a hospital, there should be a lactation consultant available to help them and answer any questions.
