Nursing a four point lead at halftime and at the end of the third quarter, Greene County out scored Saydel (Des Moins) 26-0 in the last quarter to win at Linduska field in Jefferson in the annual Homecoming football game on Friday night. The final was 44-14 and the action was heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Coach Caden Duncan’s Rams are 2-2 overall and 1-0 in Class 2A District 8 while the Eagles fell to 1-3, 0-1.
Senio Kamden Kinne had quite a day on Friday. After Randa Linberg was named Homecoming Queen at the afternoon Coronation ceremony, Kinne had his named called as Homecoming King. In the game on Friday night, he led an offensive line that led the offense to 429 total yards, he had a quartrback sack, and for the first time in his varsity career, Kinne scosred a touchdown. The Rams had a first and goal at the one yard line and fumbled the ball into the end zone where Kinne fell on it to increase the 11-7 halftime lead to 18-7 after the Teagan Chisholm extra point.
Senior Nicholas Stram ran for 141 yards on 21 carries, and a TD run off 33 yards. Senior quarterback Crew Conner ran for 65 yards including touchdown runs of nine and 15 yards. He was also 9-15-1 thrruough the air for 132 ayrds. Senoir Camden Strennen scored on a run of 16 yards to put the run up early, and backup QB Zach Stalder had a touchdown run of 19 yards. Kicker Teagan Chisholm booted a 31 yard field goal.
Saydel was held to 223 yards, about half of the amount of total yards they averaged the first three weeks of the season. The Eagles threw for 146 yards and ran for 77. Senior QB AJ Ollin had TD passes of 22 and 25 yards to Shane Scott and Landon Soma, respectively. He was picked off twice and the Eagles lost a muffed punt for three turnovers on the night. The Rams only turnover was an intercepted pass, just their third turnover this season.
The Rams visit the Knights of Kuemper Catholic on Friday in the Knights’ Homecoming game on Sept. 27 on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. The Knights are 3-1 , 1-0 after a Sept. 20 win vs. Roland-Story (Story City).
