Greene County residents are asked to support a worthy cause with temperatures getting colder.
New Opportunities Greene County Coordinator Teresa Lansman says donations for the annual Coat Drive are still being accepted through October 11th. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio donations of winter coats, snow pants and boots are needed for elementary school kids, while coats and sweatshirts will be given out to middle and high school students. She points out a new aspect this year is in conjunction with Greene County Adopt-A-Family to collect socks and underwear for kids.
“We are always changing with it, trying to make it better and help the families out a little bit more. Because we all know a coat, you can’t even touch, a good one, for less than 40 bucks, and snow pants and boots, it adds up, and you’ve got a kid or two, it can hit the budget very hard.”
Lansman states that last year, the Coat Drive helped 143 kids, including 52 families. She adds that donations of new or gently used items can be dropped off at her office in Jefferson by October 11th, along with any financial donations. Items will be distributed on October 19th to those students that qualify.
