With Labor Day far behind us, and the end of September getting closer, it’s almost time to get ready for fall and cooler weather.
Guthrie County Conservation Director Brad Halterman says that for Nations Bridge and Lenon Mill Parks, the camping and recreational sites run by Guthrie County, preparations begin soon. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that they shut off the water at both parks, winterizing the restrooms at both and the shower house at Nations Bridge. Halterman adds that there is one utility that they do leave active though.
“Now at both parks, we still have the electricity on so folks can come in and still camp and use our eclectic services, but the water will be shut off on October 15th.”
Halterman mentions that besides turning off the water, there is one other major step that they take in preparing. He adds that that happens at Nations Bridge Park, where they close off the lower camping area, and the road up to the watchtower on November 1st. Halterman mentions that this is done for safety reasons, as the roads to each can get steep, and they don’t want anyone to have an accident when there could be ice and snow on those roads.
