With the current dry conditions, Guthrie County is in a burn ban.

The Department of Public Safety announced on October 1st at 8:30pm that the burn ban was put in place after receiving a request from Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator Jeremy Cooper, representing the fire districts that serve Guthrie County. Controlled burns are allowed only if there is a signed burn ban permit. Permits must be signed by the fire chief in the fire district that the individual wanting to conduct the burn lives in. Any violation of a burn ban can subject a person to citation or arrest for reckless use of fire or disobeying a burn ban. The burn ban will remain in effect until Cooper notifies the State Fire Marshall that conditions have improved to a point that they are no longer dangerous.

More information on burn bans and the law, or to check the current status of burn bans can be found on the State Fire Marshal’s statewide burn ban website, which is linked below.
