The city of Jefferson was recently announced as a recipient of a statewide grant.

Empower Rural Iowa awarded a Rural Housing Readiness Assessment Grant for $20,000 to Jefferson. City Administrator Scott Peterson is thrilled to receive this funding and with the partnership of ISU Extension and Outreach to help them conduct an assessment of the current housing stock and build on the community’s successes and establish a structure for additional housing development efforts.

Peterson points out that the planning process will give the community the ability to identify strategic housing solutions that improve the enhanced livability and accessibility for all residents. He adds that with a strong buy-in from community members, this plan will lay the groundwork for future successes.

Jefferson was one of five communities that received a Rural Housing Readiness Assessment Grant. The others included Durant, Hampton, Denison and Iowa Falls. Other grant recipients from Empower Rural Iowa were for Building Ownership and Organization by Strengthening Teams and Childcare Planning Grant. Click here to see the full list of grant recipients.
