Greene County was a Heart of Iowa Activities Conference volleyball winner in Jefferson vs. Saydel (Des Moines) last night in three sets. Scores were 25-19, 25-8, 25-5 as Coach Chris Heisterkamp’s team improved to 3-1 in the conference and 8-9 overall. The Eagles fell to 0-8 in the HOIAC and 2-13 on the season.

The Rams hd 45 digs and 11 ace serves. Senior Hailey Carman led in ace serves with four and sophomore Bellah Johnson had three ace serves. Senior Emma Shipley had 10 kills with nine from senior Emma Ewalt, and eight from junior Lila Osterson. The Ram held a 16-5 lead in set one, but the Eagles got to within five points late. In set two, it was a 9-6 Greene County lead before pulling away. After trailing 0-1 in the third set, the Rams scored 11 straight points and cruised from there.

Next up for the Rams is their Greene County Invitational this Saturday in the high school gym at 9 a.m. The Rams will be joined by ACGC, Carroll High, Van Meter, Nodaway Valley (Greenfield), Stanton, Carlisle, and South Hardin (Eldora).

Coach Makayla Sparr’s Paton-Churdan team lost to Coon Rapids-Bayard in Coon Rapids on Thursday night in straight sets by scores of 11-25, 14-25, 9-25. The Rockets fell to 2-8 with eight straight losses and they are 0-7 in the conference. CR-B improved to 5-1 in league play and 18-4 overall. Coach Sparr reports junior Mia Russell led the team in digs with 10 and sophomore Kaliyah Minnihan led in kills with two.
