The Jefferson Public Library is partnering with two entities this Saturday to bring youth-related programs to the community.

Youth Services Librarian Bailey Mount says there are only a few spots left for pre-kindergarten through fourth graders to sign up for Halloween Crafts at Warm Wishes from 10am-noon on Saturday. She points out that participants will be making paper plate pumpkin people and nature wands with leaf confetti. She describes the kind of materials needed to make a nature wand.

“You go outside, you get a bunch of leaves, and you crumple them up and you just glue them down on shapes. I think the kids are going to be very excited, we’re making nature wands.”

Mount says the other activity will be for the teens at Sierra Community Theatre with a showing of the movie “White Bird” which is based on the graphic novel by R.J. Palacio. The movie is at 2pm on Saturday with free admission and a $2 off concession item or small popcorn to the first 50 teens. She talks about having to plan for things like this, takes lots of emails and a great partnership with the movie theater and the manager Sarah Nicholson.

“I’m really glad that Sarah and I work together professionally but that we’re also friends personally. Because I can call her when I hear about something and go, ‘Hey, what are the odds of you getting this?’ And we can kind of try to collaborate and work through it from there. She can give me realistic expectations and I can see if I can meet them in the turn around time that they have. And thankfully, everyone has just been really on board in agreeing that the teens are a group that needs more attention and more programming, and it’s been working out.”

Mount adds that there is a drawing for one teen at each of the six county libraries that has a chance to win a free copy of the same graphic novel. Each additional sibling or parent can also watch the movie with a paid admission.
