There are two candidates running for Guthrie County Sheriff, as we talked with Democratic incumbent Marty Arganbright.
Arganbright grew up in the Panora area, living on a Century Farm and graduating from Panora-Linden High School. Then he attended Des Moines Area Community College, and then transferred to Iowa State University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in agribusiness. Later on Arganbright decided that he would answer the call to serve, and attended the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy, afterwards becoming a Panora police officer, then police chief, before becoming the Guthrie County Sheriff in 2008.
Arganbright shares his view on a hot topic in Guthrie County, the Summit Carbon Solutions proposed underground liquid carbon dioxide capture pipeline.
“I am not a supporter of the pipeline proposed, as a landowner and law enforcement officer. I have empathy and understanding for those who are currently battling the possibility of the Summit pipeline entering Guthrie County. My family farm has been in the Arganbright family for 160 years and the thought of a pipeline coming through it is disturbing.”
Arganbright mentions that he is supportive of having a school resource officer in the Adair – Casey / Guthrie Center School District should the district choose to have one, mentioning that all kids deserve to be able to go to school and have it be a safe place for them. He shares why he’s decided to run for office once again.
“I’m running again because I love my job. I got into law enforcement to help people. I try to make a difference every day. I help everybody. I feel that I’m a stable, safe resource for people who need help. I will continue the fight in Guthrie County against drugs. I have some of the best deputies in my opinion who have the same goals as I do, and give it all to make this county a great place to live.”
Arganbright adds that should he be reelected, he wants to continue the fight against drugs in the county, and to run the jail as a vital county resource. He is running against Republican challenger Matt Harmann.
