With harvest season wrapping up soon in Iowa, a local field agronomist continues to bring good news for Greene County farmers.

Landus Cooperative Field Agronomist Dan Bjorklund says soybeans are close to being completely harvested, while corn is about 90 percent harvested. He points out that the corn fields that had good drainage and took a lot of the early spring rainfall were averaging 250 bushels per acre, with the highest being in the 280s; and some that were the best yields for Greene County farmers. Bjorklund explains that soybean yields were averaging between 75 and 80 bushels per acre. He shares his thoughts on how these yields compare in other Landus territories.

“I’d say Greene County is the bullseye for highest yields. As we went east and west, and even south the growing conditions were just not quite as good. You could almost say that it was perfect conditions for Greene County. It really is the best county that I’ve seen, and I travel all throughout Landus.”

Bjorklund adds that corn fields that were impacted by pests, such as tar spot and Southern rust, had a noticeable decrease between 30 and 40 bushels per acre, while the soybean cyst nematode brought yields down 10 to 15 bushels per acre.
