The Red Oak Golf Course is the site of a Class 2A Coed State Qualifying Cross-Country Meet starting at 4 p.m. today. Greene County will be sending its boys and girls squads to the Montgomery County community more than 110 miles from Jefferson. Teams based in Sheldon, Milford, Chariton, and Monroe, among others, also have a long way to go to compete for berths at the Nov. 2 State Coed Meet north of Ft Dodge.

Senior Noah Hinote for the Greene County boys will be trying to qualify for State competition for the third time. He was a Class 3A qualifier last year and made it to State in 2A two years ago. Junior Carter Hinote, sophomore Brady Carstensen, and freshman Nick Black, have been consistently among the top four finishers for the boys. Freshman Rylee Mowrer has led the girls’ team throughout the season.
