A reminder that this afternoon and evening is when several Halloween activities are happening in Jefferson.

There is a Halloween Party with the Jefferson Parks and Recreation Department that is partnering with the Greene County High School Interact Club from 3:45-5pm at the Greene County Community Center. Then, from 4:30-6pm is Spook the Loop with Jefferson Matters as several businesses and organizations will be handing out candy and other goodies to trick or treaters around the downtown square. The Jefferson Public Library will be hosting games and handing out candy in the Youth Services Department, along with a skit in the basement that is based on the family-friendly book, “Little Ghost Makes A Friend” by Maggie Edkins Willis.

Jefferson Police Chief Mark Clouse reminds children and families out enjoying the festivities to be vigilant if walking from location to location as there will also be regular traffic in those areas.

“I always tell the young children, when you’re standing at a corner, any time of the year, when you’re trying to cross in the crosswalks, and you have the right of way to do so, make sure the person in that vehicle has eye contact with you. Make sure they see you. We just all need to be careful.”

The festivities wrap up with a middle and high school band performing Halloween music at the Greene County High School auditorium from 6:30-7:30pm.
