The Greene County Historical Society invites the public to a ghoulish good time at the historical museum in Jefferson on Sunday.

According to the Historical Society, at 2pm there will be four ghosts haunting the museum and represent four icons of the community. Jefferson residents Clancy Clawson and Don Van Gilder will be portraying the spirits of brothers Mahlon and Albert Head. Mahlon and his younger brother Albert both fought for the Union Army in the Civil War and settled in Jefferson. The two went on to build the Head House Hotel and the Head Brothers Opera House in Jefferson and Mahlon was also a local banker and a Republican state legislator.

Two other Jefferson residents, Kristin Lang is going to be the 1972 Summer Olympic gold medalist for archery Doreen Wilbur, whose only coach was her husband Paul “Skeeter” Wilbur who recently died this past May at the age of 95. The final ghost is George Gallup, played by Darren Jackson. Gallup was the inventor of the Gallup Poll.

Additionally, piano music will be played by Rick Morain and Jennifer Powers on the fiddle, along with Gina Coon Harrington presenting a comic skit and Jean Van Gilder reading 1860s letters from the museum’s collection.

The free program on Sunday will also have refreshments for people to enjoy.
