The festive part of the Halloween season is coming soon with trick or treating and in today’s society, law enforcement is urging everyone to be safe.

Dallas County Sheriff Adam Infante recommends that adults should tag along with their children to trick or treat. He recalls when he went trick or treating, he was able to run around the neighborhood, fill up on candy, return home, then go out again. He mentions that times have changed and nowadays, an adult of at least 18 years old should guide younger children when they go from door to door for delicious treats. Infante stresses that kids should only grab candy outside a home, where the accompanying adult can still see.

“And make sure that they’re (kids) not going inside people’s houses to get these treats, and that they only go to houses with porch lights on. Those sorts of things. I was a kid once, (and) I know what it’s like to just run, (so) an adult or an older child would be very handy.”

Infante suggests that two adults can swap out every couple of streets or have a time limit with one child or children. He also understands that families may know each other well enough to enter their homes, but that the adult should still go in with them.
