The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Football team was stifled from the top team in Class 4A, North Polk, losing 27-14 on Friday.
The Tigers took a five-game winning streak into Alleman, where the Comets used a big running strategy to separate themselves. For the first time this season, ADM scored zero points in the first quarter, as no scoring was done on North Polk’s side either. The second quarter saw Comets Senior Quarterback Nathan Feldmann break away for an 89-yard rushing touchdown, followed by a two-point conversion to put North Polk on top 8-0. After a punt, the Comets would possess the ball again at their own 23 yard line, with the drive resulting in a five-yard pass from Feldmann to Senior Carter Van Brocklin, to extend the lead 14-0.
ADM punted again on their third possession, then with North Polk taking over on their own 26 yard line, Senior Running Back BJ Tate darted off for a 62-yard touchdown run to put the Comets in control 21-0. With 90 seconds remaining in the first half, ADM’s Senior Corbin Reed caught the ball at the one yard line on the ensuing kick off and returned it for 99 yards to get the Tigers on the board, still trailing 21-7 at half.
There was not much scoring in the second half, as neither team put up any points in the third quarter. In the fourth, Feldmann capitalized on a 17-yard pass play to Senior Wide Receiver Jakob Phillips, but a blocked extra point kept the score 27-7. ADM would respond on the next drive, ending with a 10-yard rush by Junior Quarterback Hudson Shull to make it 27-14, which would go on to be the final score.
Comets’ Feldmann tallied 57 passing yards for two touchdowns, while adding 151 rushing yards and one TD on the ground. Tate finished with 203 total rushing yards and one TD. For the Tigers, Shull threw for 100 yards, rushed for 53 yards and one touchdown. Reed had the other touchdown on the kick off return, finishing with 128 total yards. Senior Wyatt Schweiger lead with 45 receiving yards, while Senior Running Back Jonathan Hatchitt ran for 57 yards.
North Polk finishes the 2024 regular season 9-0 as ADM falls to 7-2. Both teams secured spots in the Class 4A playoffs and we’ll find out this weekend who they will be playing.
