Greene County was a 30-6 high school football winner last night in Clarinda over the host Cardinals to open the Class 2A playoffs. Coach Caden Duncan’s Rams led from start to finish and will move on to the Round of 16 on Friday, Nov. 1 at a site and opponent to be announced at 10 a.m. today on the Iowa High School Athletic Association website. All Greene County playoff games are broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
Coach Caden Duncan’s Rams improved to 5-4 on the season while the Cardinals finished with a 6-3 mark. Clarinda played without junior quarterback Noah Harris due to a concussion suffered in an Oct. 18 contest.
The Rams led from start to finish after senior Crew Conner found junior Broc Stream for a 14 yard touchdown on the visiting teams’ first possession on offense. It was set up by a fumble recovered by senior Camden Strennen. Conner and Stream would connect on a 64 yard pass and run in the third quarter, and senior Nicholas Stream had a second quarter TD run of 63 yards and a two yard touchdown late in the contest. Junior Teagan Chisholm kicked a 32 yard field goal and was three for three on extra point kicks. The Rams tried one two-point conversation that was no good. Broc Stream led the team in receiving yards with 94 on three catches.
Nicholas Stream finished with 135 rushing yards on 17 carries and Conner went 8-17-0 for 169 yards. Sophomore Zach Stalder threw for 30 yards to junior Phoenix Hartman on a fake punt for his only passing attempt. Total yardage favored the Rams by a 397-272 mark. The only points scored by Clarinda were on a kickoff return for 88 yards by Kaden Roop in the third quarter.
During the current three game winning streak for Greene County, the Rams have allowed a combined total of 26 points. The 30 points they scored are the most since a 44-14 victory vs. Saydel (Des Moines) in week four. The Rams also have not turned the ball over in any of the three games in the winning streak, but they have collected 10 turnovers from the opponents in those same three contests.
