A member with the Dallas County Health Department shares the steps of talking with a counselor relating to medicare.
Community Health Educator Natalie Peters tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the medicare open enrollment period is currently open until December 7th. She describes that medicare beneficiaries can review or change their prescription drug plan, or a medicare advantage plan. Peters walks through the process of scheduling an appointment with a Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) Counselor.
“SHIIP has some trained volunteers to help folks navigate signing up or switching medicare plans during open enrollment. They help folks sign up for medicare during initial enrollment around your 65th birthday, but then also during this time.”
Peters stresses that SHIIP Counselors services are free to use and that Dallas County residents can make appointments at either the Dallas County Hospital, 610 10th Street, in Perry or the Dallas County Health Department, 25747 North Avenue, in Adel.
