Overnight tonight, all clocks in Iowa will be turned back one hour.

Daylight Saving Time ends at 2am tomorrow morning, which means any device or clock that is not automatic will need to be set back one hour following the time change. Jefferson Fire Chief Jack Williams reminds everyone that the time change during Daylight Saving Time is the perfect opportunity to check and possibly replace batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. He explains the importance of doing this twice per year when it is Daylight Saving Time.

“So changing the batteries in the fall, generally in the fall is when we’ve got Christmas trees (and) Christmas lights, all that stuff going up., and it’s nice to have fresh batteries in there so you know it’s going to work. You can test them by reaching up and just pushing the button and if it chirps it’s generally good. But if you’re changing them every six months you’ll know the battery that’s in it is good and working properly.”

Devices such as cell phones, computers and tablets will automatically flip back one hour.
