The Perry and Adel-DeSoto-Minburn High School Drama Departments are in the midst of their fall plays, with showcases set for tonight.

Perry is presenting “PUFFS,” which Director Randy Peterson describes as a fresh perspective in the renowned Harry Potter universe told through the eyes of the fictional class “The Hufflepuffs.” Senior Andres Zarate is playing the role of Oliver Rivers, who is a nerdy Hufflepuff and he anticipates seeing an array of emotions from the audience.

“It’s a comedy. I’m looking forward to hearing those laughs, those potential cries, we’ll see. So yeah, I’m just looking forward to putting on a good show, getting through it, and then enjoying it after.”

General admission tickets can be purchased online for $6. The show is taking place inside the Perry Performing Arts Center tonight at 7pm.

For ADM High School, the fall play is “Newsies: Seize the Day,” based on the 1800s musical of newspaper delivery boys protesting against child labor. Senior Tate Truitt is portraying Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsie who fights for the others in town and Senior Reyna Shirley-Brown will be Katherine Plumber, who is a strong-willed female reporter working against the odds in a heavily male-dominated industry. Student Director Isaac Hatchitt is hoping to fill the high school auditorium and is excited for the students’ performances as well.

“Seeing like all the actors and performers just being there, doing their job, doing what they love, being themselves, but also being the characters and just putting on a great show for the audience and for themselves.”

Ticket sales are $6 for youth under the age of 18, ADM students and staff members, then adults cost $10. The show is in the high school auditorium with a presentation tonight at 7pm and a matinee tomorrow at 2pm.
