A special Veterans Day event is happening Monday with the Perry Community School District.

Perry High School will be holding a Veterans Day assembly program with a full morning of events planned. According to the co-organizer Tom Lipovac, a complimentary breakfast will take place at HyVee in Perry from 6-10am, which is free for veterans, active service, National Guard, and reserve personnel. Also, the 35th Annual Perry High School Social Studies Department Veterans Day Panel will be held at the Perry Performing Arts Center from 8:45-9:45am, followed by the 27th Annual Veterans Day Celebration at 10am, with a luncheon at the high school gym immediately after the celebration.

Lipovac shares that back in 1989, the Perry High School Social Studies Department with Jim Kaufman, Tom Schleicher, and himself held its first Veterans Day Panel featuring World War II veterans. Lipovac says the program is a way to honor those that have served or are currently serving the United States.

“It involves a lot of people, it’s an excellent connection between our community and the school district, by showing our appreciation to veterans and their families.”

Lipovac mentions that all the events are free of charge to guests that plan on coming.
