Greene County went 5-5 during its recent 2024 football season. Coach Caden Duncan’s Rams were 2-4 with two games left in the regular season. Close victories over the last two regular season opponents put the Rams in the Class 2A playoffs, then a 30-6 win in the Round of 32 at Clarinda advanced the team to Monroe and the Round of 16. The Rams fell to number two ranked PCM 48-6 to conclude the season.

Activities Director Dave Wright told Raccoon Valley Radio he goes back and forth about the number of football teams in Iowa that qualify for the playoffs. Under the old method of 16 teams qualifying in 2A, the Ram would have been left out of the postseason. Instead, two dramatic victories as time ran out in weeks seven and eight put the Rams into the District 8 number three seed and the win at Clarinda followed. A five win season and avoiding a losing record for a second year in a row for Greene County resulted from 32 teams advancing to the playoffs.

The quarterfinal round for all seven classes were last night with the semifinals and finals being held the next two weeks inside the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls.
