Greene County ISU Extension has recently announced its new county director.

Jeff Lamoureux is a long-time Jefferson resident who most recently worked for Iowa Turfgrass Institute for two years. Before that, Lamoureux was the Heart of Iowa Habitat for Humanity Executive Director and the Parks and Recreation Director for the cities of Perry and Jefferson. He was also elected to serve on the Greene County Extension Council since 2022, after he was asked to run by the former county extension director, currently regional director, Lori Mannel.

“I didn’t hesitate to say ‘Yes.’ I believe in Extension. My girls were involved with 4-H when they were growing up. So I knew the importance of Extension (but) I didn’t know the extent of it (and) all of the things that they did, so it was a good learning experience and it was just an opportunity for me to give back at the time.”

Lamoureux points out when this position became available, he thought it was an opportunity he couldn’t pass up and is excited to continue the work that Mannel started ten years ago when she became the extension coordinator/director.

“You Lori’s done a great job and to work on the foundation that she set here, and work with the team that she has assembled. As you can see it’s a good team (and) a lot of good things going here.”

Lamoureux adds he feels more comfortable about the position having been on the finance and programming committees with his time on the extension council. He is excited to learn more about the internal functions of extension and meeting new people. Lamoureux started as the new county director on November 4th.
