Our series on the six individuals selected last week for the 2025 Greene County High School Athletic Hall of Fame continues with a look at John Michael Sawhill. The 2008 Jefferson-Scranton graduate was a first team All-State selection in football as an offensive lineman by the Iowa Newspaper Association and the Des Moines Register. In college, he was a Pioneer League All-Conference defensive lineman for the Drake Bulldogs. Sawhill anchored JSPC offensive lines that went to the playoffs his junior and senior seasons, including the Class 2A semifinals inside the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls in 2006.

An all-around athlete, Sawhill was a second team All-State offensive lineman as a junior, placed at the State Wrestling Tournament, and in the shot put at the State Track & Field Meet, both in 2008. He capped his high school career by being chosen for an All-State team in baseball, also as a senior.

Sawhill lives in the Des Moines area and is a businessman, but also keeps his hand in high school football as the defensive coordinator for the Des Moines Christian Lions.
