A diver from Adel-DeSoto-Minburn High School is striving to keep improving as she accomplished a big record during the 2024 season.
ADM junior Eliza Schmidt just wrapped up the season following an 18th place finish in diving at the state meet that was held in Marshalltown this past weekend. ADM partners with the Waukee School District for swimming and diving. Earlier in the season, Schmidt broke the Waukee School record for 11 dives totaling an overall score of 407.65, passing a four year old mark of 403, set by Mali McGregor in 2020. Schmidt tells Raccoon Valley Radio what hitting that achievement means to her.
“I think it means that I’ve proved myself a bit, I’ve put in a lot of work. And it was just a really nice accomplishment to add on to this season, but I think it also means that I have room for improvement where I can break my own record.”
Schmidt notes that her coaches have helped her with the mental side of diving and they offer her inspiration to continue developing. She illustrates that she’ll be involved in club diving in the offseason, specifically working on one and three meter dives.
