Greene County Adopt-A-Family is seeking monetary donations for one of its most important programs of the year.
Sherry Graven is the organizer of the Holiday Food Baskets, where less fortunate families receive a variety of food to help get them through winter break when their children are home from school in December. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that last year Greene County Adopt-A-Family served 170 families which was over $31,000 worth of food. Graven says their organization does not have a specific budget for the Holiday Food Baskets, but it is driven by how much the community is willing to donate.
“Depending on how the donations come in depends on what we can actually buy. So I have to wait til closer to the (distribution) date, which is December 14th, to actually make my order, and sometimes I’m a little bit nervous when I order and I don’t quite have enough money to pay for it. So we really do need the donations to come in fairly soon.”
Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation recently donated $6,000 to Greene County Adopt-A-Family as part of its Give Back Awards. Graven appreciates their donation and is looking for more as people can drop off a monetary donation to any of the Peoples Bank locations in the county, at their mailing address to P.O. Box 364 in Jefferson, or anytime when people see her in the community, and to the Greene County Engineer’s Office.
