Individuals needing assistance with paying for winter heating are still able to apply for some.
New Opportunities Family Development Coordinator Rhonda Huggins says that applications started in October for those 65 and older, and on November 1st for everyone else, but that they remain open until the end of April. She mentions that they do have less funding this year because federal funds that they received during Covid are no longer available, so they may not be able to help as much as they did during previous years.
Huggins adds that she has been visiting libraries around the county this month to help individuals apply, and that there are still a few more that she will be visiting. She will be at the Jamaica Library on Monday, and the Bagley Library on November 26th. Huggins explains that those wanting or needing to apply will need to bring social security cards for everyone in the household, their recent heating and electric bill, and proof of income for the last 30 days.
