An organization in the City of Perry is expanding the housing market by adding a few homes in the community.
Dallas County Habitat for Humanity announces that three new homes in Perry are available to rent. Community Partnership Coordinator Lindsey Van Wyk tells Raccoon Valley Radio that out of the three homes, two of them were built by inmates through the Homes for Iowa program. She ensures that they acquire good values while constructing the homes.
“They also have the added benefit of having taught inmates value life skills and rehabilitation skills, so hopefully once they are out of imprisonment, they can find meaningful work. It’s an added bonus, it’s doing good things all the way around.”
Van Wyk states that the homes are spread throughout Perry with locations on Dewey Street, Lucinda Street, and Graceland Avenue. She acknowledges that people who wouldn’t normally qualify for a traditional loan can apply for a habitat affordable mortgage through the organization.
