Thursday is Thanksgiving, but many may celebrate on more than just the holiday.
Iowa State Patrol District 4 Resource Officer Trooper Shelby McCreedy says that for those who are planning to celebrate when being with friends and family, it is important to know what to do if you are going to consume alcohol. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio some advice she commonly shares for holidays.
“You know, it’s the same conversation it seems like we have, you know, every holiday. If you’re going to partake in drinking at a celebration, at a family get together, or whatever it is you might be doing over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, you know, the key is to make a plan and, you know, make sure you execute that plan.”
McCreedy mentions that an individual’s plan can be anything, from getting a ride back to their home to having arrangements with the host to stay the night there. She adds that law enforcement agencies across the state will have more officers out to make sure motorists are being safe, so if someone is caught driving drunk, they will be arrested.
