The AC/GC Chargers girls basketball team opened the season on a high note.
The Chargers hosted the IKM-Manning Wolves, and both teams started off with a decent first quarter, going into the second with AC/GC leading 26-14. The Chargers then put up 19 points while holding the Wolves to 14, and went into halftime up 45-28. In the third quarter IKM-Manning outscored AC/GC 10-9, and the score going into the fourth quarter was 54-38 in favor of the Chargers. AC/GC kicked it back into high gear for the final quarter, putting up another 19 points and holding the Wolves to 11, and finishing with a 73-49 victory.
Sophomore Stella Largent led the way in scoring, putting up 16 points, with senior Shay Lemke and junior Karli Kautzky right behind her with 15 points a piece. Juniors Becca Littler and Camdyn Richter rounded out the scoring by the starters with 11 and 12 points respectively, and sophomore Olivia Mahaffey completed the list of Chargers on the board with four points of her own. Richter led in rebounds with seven, while Lemke led in assists with 11, and Kautzky led in steals with five. Richter also had the Chargers only blocks on the night with two. The Chargers return to action next Tuesday, when they travel to Stuart and take on the West Central Valley Wildcats.
