
The Perry City Council met in regular session on Monday.
Perry Mayor Dirk Cavanaugh started the meeting off by showing his appreciation of volunteers and residents that attended the Perry Chamber’s Lighted Holiday Parade on Friday and those that participated in the Tinsel Trot on Saturday. Items on the agenda that were approved included a pay application for the Automated Weather Observing System project in the amount of $32,972.60 to Kimrey Electric, a pay application for the Iowa Street Stormwater Wetland project for $76,553.22 to Sandstone Management LTD, a resolution for tax abatement applications for residential construction completed in 2024 in the City of Perry, and setting regular meetings to avoid conflict with the observance of holidays being January 6th, February 18th, June 30th, July 7th, and September 2nd.
Additional items that were approved pertained to appointing newspaper for official publications and notices with Raccoon Valley Radio apart of it, a resolution to make council appointments for Chuck Schott to be reappointed as Mayor Pro Tem, Carolyn McNeill to be reappointed to the Perry Day Care Incorporated and the Dallas County Early Childhood Education Board from January 1st, 2025 to December 31st, 2025; appointing Dr. Harlyn McGuire to a four year appointment to Airport Commission, three year appointment for Dean Berkland to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, a four year appointment for JP Hulgan for the Planning and Zoning Commission, and three year appointment to Connie McGuire for the Historic Preservation Commission.
More items approved included a resolution adopting a snow and ice control policy for the Public Works Department and making council appointments for various city positions including City Clerk Elizabeth Hix, City Finance Officer Susie Moorhead, City Attorney Duwayne Dalen, Perry Police Chief Jim Archer, and Compliance Officers Mark Colton, Scott Kopecky, and Molly Milosevich.
