The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Boys Basketball team came out victorious in overtime over Dallas Center-Grimes Tuesday night for the season opener.

The Tigers outlasted the Mustangs in a hard fought comeback to win the game in an extra period 84-81. DCG jumped out on ADM winning the first quarter 23-13. The Mustangs continued to pour it on in the second quarter as they took a 46-35 lead into the halftime break. It was a great first half from DCG senior Kyle Cason, who had 24 of the 46 points. The second half would be a different story for him as the defense tightened up from ADM junior Hudson Shull to hold Cason to just seven overall in next three periods. The Tigers outscored the Mustangs 17-11 in the third to close the gap 57-52, then got another 20 points in the fourth as Shull tied the game late with a three pointer at 72-72.

ADM junior Trey Bryte had an opportunity for the win, but missed a three pointer at the buzzer with the game headed to overtime. In the extra period, Shull hit another huge three pointer to put the Tigers up 82-78 as they went on to make crucial free throws down the stretch to secure the 84-81 win. DCG was led with Cason’s 31 points, followed by senior Mateo Dzolota’s 17, and freshman Chase Perrin with nine. For ADM, junior Hudson Lorensen had 27 points, then Bryte was right behind with 26, and it was Shull marking 14 of his own. Bryte tells Raccoon Valley Radio that this season is all about belief.

“(We) started off slow in the second half. We’re down 11 points during halftime, but our motto this year is believe that and we just believed that we could win the game until the end and we fought hard and we came back, and we did it.”

The Mustangs fall to 0-1 and will face Des Moines Christian Friday night in Grimes, while the Tigers move to 1-0 and will host North Polk on Friday in Adel. Raccoon Valley Radio will carry the broadcast following the girls game at 6pm.
