
Playing basketball on consecutive nights early in the season can be challenging for high school teams. Greene County made the trip to Perry on Tuesday night to open Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play after dropping both ends of a girl/boy doubleheader to Ogden on Monday night in Jefferson. Perry won both games, 38-13 in the girls’ game and 65-32 in the boys’ contest.The Rams fell to 0-3 on the girls’ side and 0-2 in boys’ hoops. Perry improved to 2-0 and 1-0 in boys’ basketball. Sophomore Lily Myers of Perry led all scorers with 13 points while the Rams had six points from junior Makenna Ebersole and five from junior Leah McCormick. The Rams did not score a single point in the game 21 minutes, 40 seconds of game time had lapsed. The Rams were down 32-1 at the end of three quarters, then put 12 points on the board in the last stanza.
Greene County started the boys’ game well enough and led 13-8 before just 19 points in the final 26 minutes of playing time. The Blue Jays put together a 16-0 run to take control starting late in the first quarter. Perry led 15-13 after one quarter, 47-19 at halftime and 54-23 at the end of the third period. Senior Owen Myers had 26 points for Perry with junior Gustavo Drahas adding 18. The Rams had eight points from junior Nathan Towers and seven by senior Isaac Carman.
