Earlier this year, a decision was made that the US Congress would not pass a new Farm Bill.

The 2018 Farm Bill continues to be enacted as Congress passed a continuing resolution last year for one year and that expires on December 31st of this year. US Senator Chuck Grassley anticipates the same thing happening this year, with another one year extension.

“I wouldn’t want to say it happens every time that a five year Farm Bill has to be renewed, but it’s happened several times. So this isn’t an unusual to have another (one year) extension at this point.”

Grassley adds that the final day that Congress has to officially pass another continuing resolution on the 2018 Farm Bill is by December 21st. When a new Farm Bill is passed, it is typically valid for five years before Congress can take up a new bill for consideration.
