With the first measurable snowfall for the winter season, residents in Guthrie County should remember their community’s snow ordinance.
Under Guthrie Center’s snow ordinance, an emergency parking ban will be enacted with an accumulation of snow that is two or more inches. According to city code, this means parking on residential streets, in alleys or city-owned off-street parking will not be allowed. The ban will stay in effect until snow is no longer falling, and has been removed from city streets, alleys and parking areas. Residents are also responsible for removing snow on sidewalks that are against their property, and any vehicles left in unpermitted areas during the ban will be fined.
Panora’s snow ordinance states that whenever snow begins to fall and for 48 hours after it stops, parking on city streets during snow removal is not permitted, except for the west side of North 1st Street and between Main and Market Streets. Vehicles that are not moved can receive a citation, or be towed. Panora residents are also responsible for clearing sidewalks against their property, and not cleaning them can lead to fines.
In Stuart, the snow ordinance began November first, and will last through April 1st. Cars are not to be parked along any street, or in off-street city-owned parking between 2-6am. Vehicles are also not allowed to be parked on streets any time during snowfall and events, and during snow removal. Please also have extra patience, as the Stuart Public Works Department only has two members at this time, and they will be working to clear snow as quickly as possible.
