The Paton-Churdan School District recently received high marks on the Iowa School Performance Profile.
Principal Annie Smith says the elementary and secondary grades were both given a commendable rating by the Department of Education’s Performance Profile. The data is based on the state assessment that public schools administer to students, along with some other socio-economic and demographic information. She describes her reaction to receiving those scores, which were one category away from the top ranking of exceptional.
“I mean it just makes me so proud. It makes me so proud of our students, it makes me proud of our staff, or our families, you know our parent support, and our community support. I just think all of those are pieces of that pie.”
Smith shares the data from the report that confirmed what the school district has set as its goals for the school year are heading in the right direction. She points out such topics as tackling chronic absenteeism and curriculum support for students, among others. Smith states that being a Class 1A school does not stop them from having success in the classroom and creating a learning environment.
“I just think it reinforces, we kind of believe here our philosophy is ‘Every Kid Matters Everyday.’ We give our heart to that everyday and I just think that that just shows. That it does not matter the resources that we have, it does not matter the students that we have, it does not matter, we are going to just 100 percent, our best to make those connections to give that high quality of education.”
