A Perry woman was apprehended from law enforcement after allegedly trying to intentionally set a house on fire.
According to Perry Police Chief Jim Archer, the police department, along with the fire department, responded to a report of a house fire along Bateman Street early Saturday morning. A press release states that the fire occurred at a residence featuring upstairs and downstairs apartments. Archer shares that the investigation found that the fire was set deliberately by 54-year-old Rosa Perez Diaz. According to the release, Perez Diaz is an estranged wife of one of the victims in the lower-level apartment and allegedly rented a white Chevrolet Malibu with Missouri license plates and was believed to be escaping to California. At about 5am, the Perry Police Department was notified from the Johnston Police Department that the rental car had been flagged by a license plate reader near Kearney, Nebraska.
Archer explains that around 2pm Saturday, Perez Diaz was stopped on Interstate 74 in Eagle County, Colorado by a state trooper and arrested on a Dallas County warrant from a previous incident. Perez Diaz was charged with a Class B Felony of Attempted Murder on four counts, a Class B Felony of 1st Degree Arson, and a Class D Felony of Criminal Mischief in the 2nd Degree. She was booked into the Eagle County Jail, in Eagle, Colorado and will be awaiting extradition back to Iowa to face the charges.
