
The AC/GC Chargers basketball teams are facing their first Bulldogs team of the week tonight, as Van Meter comes to Guthrie Center.
The Chargers girls team is off to a 3-0 start, and look to continue the streak against the 1-2 Bulldogs. For AC/GC, senior Shay Lemke leads the team in scoring and assists with 15 points and 8.7 assists per game. Sophomore Stella Largent leads in rebounds with six per game, averaging 2.7 offensive and 3.3 defensive rebounds. For Van Meter, senior Finley Netten leads in points, averaging 11.7, while fellow senior Teya Speltz leads in rebounds and assists, averaging 7.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists.
The Chargers boys team has also started the season undefeated, going 2-0 last week, and will look to continue that tonight against the 2-0 Bulldogs. For AC/GC, Jathan South leads in points, averaging 25.5 per game, while fellow senior Payton Policky leads in rebounds, averaging 16.5 total rebounds per game. Senior Noah Kading leads the Chargers in the assists category, with 8.5 per game and a 3.4 assist to turnover ratio. For Van Meter, junior Andon Watson leads in points with 12 per game, while fellow junior Luke Steinfeldt leads rebounders with 7 per game. Senior Caleb Moore is the team’s assist leader with 4.5 per game, along with a 1.8 assist to turnover ratio.
Both Chargers teams are also looking to avenge a two point loss from last season, where the Bulldogs came back in the second half of their respective games to win. The series history between the girls teams shows Van Meter leading 20-9, with AC/GC winning the game between the two in 2022. For the boys teams, series history also shows the Bulldogs leading 20-9, winning the last 15 games.
Tipoff for the girls is at 6pm, with the boys to follow at 7:15pm. Pregame coverage from the Raccoon Valley Radio Sports Network will begin half an hour before tipoff of the girls game on the KKRF2 online live stream.
