Last night the Dallas Center-Grimes Mustangs basketball teams traveled to Ames High School to take on the Cyclones. Both Mustang teams achieved the sweep, as the Mustang girls dominated winning 60-28 while the boys achieved their first win of the season defeating the Cyclones 63-50.

For the girls the first quarter would be a back and forth contest, as the Mustangs would finish the quarter ahead by 1 with the score at 9-8. The Mustangs would come out fired out for the rest of the game, scoring an impressive 21 points in the second quarter for a halftime score of 30-16. The Mustang defense would continue to keep the Cyclones locked down, allowing only 12 points in the half while scoring 30 points to take an amazing 60-28 victory.

For the boys match up Ames would take the lead in the first scoring 17 points, however the Mustangs would battle back to take a 1 point lead going into the half scoring 22 points, while only allowing the Cyclones to score 4 in the second. With the score at 22-21, both teams would refuse to give up but the Mustangs would hold onto the lead scoring 19 points in the third and 22 in the fourth. The 41 point half would keep the Mustangs ahead by 13 defeating the Cyclones 63-50.

The Mustang girls now sit at 4-1 while the boys achieved their first win now sitting at 1-2. Both Mustangs are back in action on Friday at home with the girls beginning at 6pm. Coverage will begin on KDLS2 at 5:45pm.
