The Dallas Center-Grimes Mustangs girls basketball team took on the #1 ranked Bishop Heelan Crusaders and brought the match within 5 but unfortunately fell to the Crusaders 61-56. This is only the second loss for the Mustang girls this season so far, and ends the Mustangs 4-0 record on the road.

The Mustangs would claim the lead in the first half, scoring 19 points while holding the Crusaders to only 13 points. Bishop Heelan would begin to gain some momentum scoring 15 points in the second before the half but the Mustangs would hang on, outscoring the Crusaders by one putting up 16 to claim the lead at halftime, 35-28.

Coming back from the break, Bishop Heelan would fire up, but both defenses would battle one another, holding each other to single digit points. The Crusaders would outscore the Mustangs by 3, notching in 9 points to bring the game within 4 in the third. The Mustangs would try to hold on, but the Crusaders would find their rhythm, scoring 24 points to claim 61-56.

This was the last game of the season for the Mustang girls basketball team as they fall to 7-2 to wrap up the 2024 year. The Mustang girls are back in action on January 3rd at Williamsburg High School against the Raiders.
