A month ago, head coach Kirk Davis, his coaching staff, and the Greene County wrestlers, returned three wrestlers from the 2024 State Tournament, along with other lineup veterans. Filling all 14 weight classes would be a challenge with limited numbers and even fewer in the upper weights. The Rams started November practices with a lot of varsity experience and a belief the upcoming season could be one to remember.

Then the injuries hit. Two-time State qualifier Brent Dennhardt hasn’t wrestled yet after suffering a severe ankle injury just before Thanksgiving. The team has gone through various injuries, illnesses, and situations that reduced the lineup from a possible 11 or 12 to just seven in the last competition before the break for the Holidays.

Things are looking up though, with four of the seven Rams that competed at Saturday’s Carroll Invitational, winning individual titles. Twin brothers Brennan (106 lbs.) and Jaron (113) Jacobs were joined by senior Gavyn Winters (120), and sophomore Degan Miller (165) as individual Champions.

Coach Davis told Raccoon Valley Radio he anticipates Dennhardt and at least one or two others to be back at practice right after Christmas. Once competition begins in early January, the Rams will have six weeks to prepare for the postseason. It’s not too late for this season to be one to remember.
