With Christmas being celebrated, there may be lots of food served at peoples’ homes which can be troublesome for pets.
Dr. Christy Fields is a veterinarian with Companion Veterinary Clinic of Greene County and she recommends staying away from giving pets any of the rich, especially high fat-content, foods because your pet could experience some health-related issues.
“Anything that they are not used to getting, even the smallest, littlest thing, can cause some pretty significant GI (gastrointestinal) upset in some of our pets. I think vomiting and diarrhea is probably one of the most frequent calls that I get, especially during the holiday season.”
Dr. Fields adds this can be true with a new food for pets as presents. She urges that in those situations to also be mindful of how much to give your pet at one time to keep them from having an upset stomach or possibly vomiting.
