The Greene County sports teams have started their break for the Holidays. The Rams field the Winter sports of bowling for girls and boys, basketball for girls and boys, and boys wrestling. Greene County boys wishing to swim are allowed to do so for Carroll High School under an athletic sharing agreement.
Wins have been a bit scarce for the Greene County teams with none of the five teams posting records above the .500 mark so far. Neither girls team has broken into the win column yet, but all three boys’ teams have done so.
Injuries in girls’ basketball and boys’ wrestling have greatly reduced the number of athletes able to be on the court and on the mat. The Rams did not play a scheduled contest vs. Roland-Story (Story City) in Jefferson on Dec. 20 due to only have six girls able to suit up. Greene County wrestlers took part in the Carroll Tiger Invitational on Saturday and filled just seven of the 14 weight classes, although four of the seven won individual titles.
There is optimism the teams in all sports will show improvement once their seasons resume in January, especially if the athletes are healthy.
