An organization in Dallas County is welcoming the public to an event that involves looking for a nocturnal animal.

The Dallas County Conservation Board is hosting an Owl Prowl program at the Voas Nature Area, 19286 Lexington Road, in Minburn, tomorrow afternoon. According to Naturalist Mike Havlick, participants will be looking for owls as he points out identifying signs that they will be watching for.

“What we will look for is white wash, which is their droppings, and we look for pellets, which is the stuff that they cough up. So if we find a spot where there is a lot of white wash and there is pellets, and then we usually start finding feathers, and that’s a really good candidate for finding owls.”

Havlick informs participants to wear loose clothing and tennis shoes as the trek will travel through the wilderness. He mentions that people aren’t guaranteed to see an owl, as last year there were no sightings, but in 2022, the conservation board spotted a long eared owl. Havlick invites families to come enjoy the program tomorrow from 1-3pm. For more information, contact the Dallas County Conservation Board at (515)-465-3577.
